24 miles in 3.5 hours

That’s how long it takes to drive a mini van through the Wasatch Mountain Range. We were the only idiots who tried this today. Everyone else had a Jeep, truck, gator, or some mountainous vehicle. They are smart. We are dumb.

Brandon decided to scope out the property that he is scheduled to hunt tomorrow. He decided to take the family with him, because that seemed like a smart idea to him. The real reason was, we were heading to Salt Lake City to run an errand, so it made sense to all go. We all headed out with him to drive up this “little mountain” 3.5 hours later…..

I’m not exaggerating in any way whatsoever, we came near death too many times to count. Once we drove so far, there was no point turning around. It would be too dangerous to turn, as the road was super narrow. Plus we had gone so far, so it seemed like it should only get better. This wasn’t true. It got much worse.

There was one God send. A guy in an SUV drove past us and helped us. It was the most dangerous part of the adventure. There were SO many rocks and a hairpin turn. This guy came and drove before us to show us the path we should take. I got out and moved several of the big rocks. I earned 60 active minutes by the way. We followed the nice stranger, and he led us within inches of falling off the edge and avoiding as many rocks as we could.

We survived. I wasn’t joking. I literally have 60 active minutes doing no major workout today. Between almost having a few heart attacks, and getting out and moving rocks I got a workout.

We really have been on too many adventures to count. Brandon reminded me today that I could stay home and stay safe and boring. Or I can make memories and be an idiot. I haven’t decided which I prefer more.

On a different note, here out West the air has been somewhat hazy. I keep checking the fire risk status online. Every single day, every single place we’ve been, the risk has been very high. We did run across one fire here in Utah. It’s up on the mountain and we can see it from the road. Luckily it wasn’t on the mountain we just drove on.

So in closing, I’m still shaking. As much as my husband would beg to differ, mini vans are NOT utility terrain vehicles.
