Monument Valley- Wind Storm

Let me just start out by saying yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday. Brandon always likes me to make three different chip dips for big games. We had bought the ingredients two days ago, back when we were at Walmart. We realized yesterday, while driving, that we had forgotten one ingredient….blue cheese. We googled to another Walmart, pulled the RV in, parked, and ran inside and grabbed a jar of blue cheese. An hour later Caed got thirsty. I opened the fridge to get him a water……boom…….the jar of blue cheese falls out of the fridge to the tile floor and shatters and splatters everywhere. I would have taken that as a sign from the Lord that we were supposed to skip the buffalo chicken dip. Not Brandon, he googled to another Walmart. He made sure to make a comment directed right at me, since I was the one who placed the blue cheese in the fridge. He said “let’s make sure we think this time and put the jar in the back of the fridge.” Let me tell you, I was not blessed by this comment. I was a little ticked and we fought a little.

Yesterday, we drove through the state of New Mexico. It was gorgeous. I loved the scenery. I lost count, but we saw 30+ hitchhikers. I couldn’t believe how many there were. We also saw around 100 wild horses. It was so cool. The kids kept yelling as they would spot a group of horses running in the wild. They took lots of pictures on their cameras. We saw lots of tumbleweeds tumbling across the road. It was windy. We also saw one hitch hiker that caught us off guard. He was standing right in the middle of the road. We didn’t see him until the last minute and he was walking right toward the moving motor home. He was waving his arm obnoxiously. We didn’t stop. It just seemed a little off. Brandon called the cops. He told them about what we just saw, in case he really did need help or in case he was a serial killer. I mean, not to be dramatic but you never know. We passed the cops about 3 minutes later heading towards him. They had great response time.

We got to our KOA campground in Monument Valley, Utah, after 9 hours of driving. Our campground was small, but beautiful. The campground had five horses that were so friendly. They let us all pet them. Brielle made a friend. I was talking to her parents and they were another traveling family. Their daughter hadn’t seen other kids in two weeks. She and Brielle immediately connected. They even let her watch the Super Bowl game with us in our RV. We were in Mountain time, so the game started at 5pm. It seemed so early. How about that half time show? It wasn’t overly kid friendly and unfortunately my kids were watching. Not that I’m trying to start some controversy. I’m not referencing talent or race or anything along that line. I’m just talking about them not being dressed the most modest: Brandon and I couldn’t help but laugh, when Caed yells “Brielle, get in here quick! Someone is climbing up a pole!”

Last night, right before we drifted to sleep, we heard a crazy amount of wind outside. Brandon looked up the weather. Turns out there was a big wind storm starting. They were expecting 60mph winds. We decided the safest thing for us to do would be to put our slides in. Wind can mess them up, and the side out covers would have for sure ripped off. We would have been in trouble for the rest of this trip. We had to move some kids around and put our king size bed up. Brandon had to sleep on the couch and I slept on the the sitting up bed. We survived the night, but didn’t sleep much. The wind sounded awful. It was so loud, and the motor home blocks sound pretty well. The kids all slept great, surprisingly.

This morning we woke up and drove to the Four Corners Monument. We had been there two years ago. Our kids have grown a ton since then. The rest of the day will be spent driving to Las Vegas.
