We had fun at the playground last evening. Caed was still traumatized from our previous incident. He refused to ride the swings without wearing a helmet. 🤣 Caed is my timid child that’s for sure.

The poor guy felt so guilty for hurting Isla. I’ve explained to him 100 times it wasn’t his fault. She just ran behind him. That didn’t stop him from taking safety very seriously.
A couple of classic Caed quotes from lately:
”Mom, does God have a butt?” I mean how would you people answer this?
”Mom, I made a new friend. She is a girl. She is not in my family. She has a fantastic imagination.” (This happened at the playground)
Caed is really a hilarious child. He doesn’t even try. He just is. Everything he says, you can’t help but laugh. It’s his little voice, and his seriousness. He takes everything seriously.

We started today with the breakfast of champions, egg burritos made with our homemade tortillas from Alamo Cafe. The kids wanted to head to the park after breakfast. We have already been to the Alamo and River Walk twice, so we kept going back and forth about what we should do today. I wanted to make sure Isla got a nap today, so we decided to wait until this afternoon to do anything. On travel days, the little booger sleeps about 15 minutes in the car seat. Since day one that girl has preferred her own bed. She will nap 2.5-3.5 hours if she’s in her bed.

We wore the kids out at the playground this morning.

Notice the helmet still. We can’t play at a playground without a helmet.

J met a group of boys. They were very sweet to him and let him play basketball with them.

They even invited him to go on a bike ride with them. We used the opportunity to teach Brielle and Caed how to ride a bike without training wheels. They both failed miserably, but it was still a fun time. Joah took off riding his bike without training wheels at 4 years old. Caed is 4 now and Brielle is 5, so it seems they should follow suit. We learned something today. Not all kids are the same. Our bike riding lesson ended with Brielle crying and Caed coming inches from crashing into someone’s camper.

We decided to try again later to ride bikes. We have stayed at the San Antonio KOA campground 3 times now. Each time I am so impressed by the atmosphere at the camp playground. There’s tons of kids and families. The kids are very friendly and they all play together well. My kids have made several friends. Brielle met a little girl named Addie. Today, I caught Brielle knocking on Addie’s camper door and talking to her dad. Bri said “I’m Addie’s friend and I was wondering if she could come play with me at the park.” I talked to Addie’s dad for awhile. They have 4 kids. They travel and they homeschool, same as us. They inspired Brandon and I with a great idea. They send their kids to the camp playgrounds with walkie talkies. That way the parents can check in on the kids. I always get worried about sending my older kids to playgrounds, because I can’t get ahold of them and check on them. So this is a great solution. Around every 10 minutes, Addie’s mom or dad checks in on the kids.

We went to a Bass Pro shop and picked out some walkie talkies.

We walked around for awhile.

Now we are headed back to camp(kid’s choice). They don’t want to go anywhere else. They want to go back to the playground and play with their friends. I am making sloppy joe’s for dinner(also kid’s choice). We are showering kids and calling it an early night. We have been doing a better job this trip of keeping kids rested and sticking with normal routines. It prevents meltdowns and helps everyone function better.
