We had a minor tragedy, that could have been much worse, to start off this trip. I was unloading last minute food items this morning. I was walking them from the suburban to the motor home(which was parked inside the shop). We had the battery plugged in and charging. I noticed smoke and smelled something hot. Then I noticed flames(not big but big enough) coming from the battery charger.
Brandon was busy finishing up work details in the office, leaving me alone. Let me just say I am terrible in emergencies. You would not want me as your doctor, I’ll tell you that. My first thought was grab a fire extinguisher, which I couldn’t find in the shop. My second thought was get my 4 kids out of the motor home. I have seen YouTube videos of campers exploding. I know when they start on fire, they go fast, and I was terrified for my kids inside. I yelled inside the RV door for them to get outside. I yelled for Brielle to grab Isla(who was in the back bedroom). They all listened. I threw them all outside the shop crying and confused in the snow. I told them just trust mom. I was on my way into the motor home(where our fire extinguisher is) when I saw Dustin, our amazing shop mechanic. I told him the charger(charging our battery) was on fire. Like a scene from a movie, he ran over and literally blew the fire out. Absolutely no fire extinguisher was used. I told him “holy cow! You must have dealt with fire before.” 🤣 it was amazing!

The battery wasn’t even ruined. It all worked out great. It only slowed us down a little bit.

Goodbye Michigan! We won’t miss the snow but we will miss the people!
Prayers are appreciated. This has been absolutely crazy leading up to this trip. Brandon had a business trip this week and flew home last night. He didn’t get home until 3am. So he’s tired. I have done most of the prep work by myself. I’m grumpy. We’re both stressed. But, things will get better. I am looking forward to traveling. I’m waiting for the stress to lift. I know it’s coming soon.
