The 4th of July is one of my favorite times of year. It was a little bittersweet being gone this year. We weren’t with friends and a lot of family, like we usually are.We woke up yesterday and didn’t have any plan or any idea if we would even watch fireworks. Since being married to Brandon, I have learned to not sweat his lack of planning. It usually works out with him. That boy has some divine favor and blessing. His spontaneity works out about 95% of the time.
Brandon had the day off from store trainings yesterday, since it was a holiday. We decided to go to the beach. We drove to Hilton Head Island. It started storming on the drive, but we checked online and it looked like it was going to pass quickly. We showed up just in time for most of the beach to be cleared. The storm passed and we had literally the perfect beach day. There were not many people and the weather wasn’t unbearably hot.
After the beach, we headed to eat. Brandon picked a random restaurant. Turns out it was right on the water. We got a very close parking spot, as someone was leaving just as we drove up. There was live music. There was an outdoor park for the kids to play. They shot fireworks off right outside the restaurant. We ate then headed outside and got a very up close view. Like I said 95% of the time, things work out with Brandon. We saw an amazing fireworks show.
This week was tough for us. Brandon’s Grandma Myles(Yowler-she remarried after grandpa Yowler died of cancer) passed away. We knew she would most likely die while we were on this trip, but it didn’t make it any easier other than we were prepared for it. We just got to spend time with her at Easter, so we are thankful for that. Also, a couple weeks ago(between motor home trips) Brandon drove down to Ohio. He took his grandma a new table from our business. She had been wanting one. Brandon set it up and visited with his grandparents and ate a meal with them. We are so thankful for that time. Even though we have to miss the funeral, we are at peace. It was more important to us that we spend time with her while she was still with us. We love her so much and will cherish all the memories. Joah has been having the hardest time of all my kids. His emotions keep going up and down. I think it’s because he is old enough to understand she won’t be coming back.

Quick funny story about our time together. We were sitting eating lunch. Isla and her daughter, Lydia, are very close together in age. At lunch Isla pointed to her string cheese and yelled “cheese!” I was felling very proud and a little boastful at my smart child. Lydia pipes up and goes “hey carla, she’s all done with her cheese.” It was hilarious. First of all she knew my name. Second of all she is talking complete sentences. It’s so funny how different kids are.
