A Fun Halloween

I love this holiday season. I never grew up trick or treating, so a part of me feels pretty rebellious. Here is my conviction on it. I take my kids for a few reasons. I love getting my kids dressed up(ok that might have been a stretch. I actually broke out in a sweat and almost cried trying to get all 4 costumes on this year) and seeing them have fun. I love the community we are from, and I love seeing all the other kids dressed up. I love seeing families out spending family time together and making memories. I’m all about memories and family time. Those are the main reasons we go. I also love pumpkins. We went to a pumpkin farm a few weeks ago and painted our pumpkins. I’m not prepared emotionally for carving them, at least not at this stage of young kids. I’m afraid someone will take off a hand, or worse yet…..the mess. Painting is good for me.

Here is Violet.

We walked around Pigeon and trick or treated. The kids got way too much candy. I explained to them beforehand that when the night was over I was going to take all of their candy bags and dump them all together in one big bowl. I don’t like the selfish attitude of “my candy!” It always leads to fights and bad behavior. I told them they could each eat two pieces of candy each day. After about two weeks when the excitment is over, I’ll throw the rest away. Plus by then I’ll have eaten all the chocolate. Just curious how the rest of you mom’s handle the candy and sugar situation?D96A6DBE-579B-461B-BF7E-B48376B280BB.jpegAfter trick or treating, we went to our friends, The Keim’s, barn for some games and activities. One of the games was charades.

This week also included:

It’s good for the kids to have social interaction with other kids. It’s good for them to have to listen to and respect another adult besides me. It’s also nice getting school done in the afternoon without interruptions, while the younger two nap.

It was partly because Joah wanted to make two crafts. It was partly because Joah gets embarrassed and thinks he’s way too old for the lap sit.

I loaded the kids up and headed to the shop. There are two big apple trees there. I have memories of climbing and picking from those same trees as a kid. Brielle was afraid to climb the trees last year. She has gotten over her fear. The next thing I knew she had kicked her boots off to climb all the way to the top. I was like “Brielle your feet are going to freeze.” She didn’t mind. She just wanted to climb and pick as many apples as she could.

We also have to visit the goats every time we go to the shop. Isla kept pointing at them and yelling “deer!”04094264-7EEA-4B69-9751-3BAC0E5218DA.jpegWe had an afternoon at the park with some friends for a play date. It was a fun and very sandy time. The bathtub was literally coated in an inch of sand after the kids bath. They played hard.

2D850802-A1EA-4506-836E-D133F2EB8468.jpegWe temporarily lost Caed. All the sudden I realized he was gone from the classroom while I was working with the older two. He dashed over the baby gate and went upstairs like a silent ninja. I found him with a very guilty look on his face eating salad. I was like Caed “what in the world?” He was like “mom sometimes Caed gets hungry.” He literally grabbed his own plate, dumped the lettuce, dumped half a bottle of ranch, and got himself a fork. He even got himself an orange too. This is Caed, the same child who still won’t pee alone because he needs morale support for everything. In Caed’s favor he chose a very healthy snack. Good job buddy for that.

Its been a fun and memory filled week!
