Spam Museum

Is anyone laughing at this title? Yes, you read that correct. We went to the Spam museum yesterday with the kids. The furniture buyer told Brandon about it. It was totally free to get in. We went as somewhat of a joke. Let me tell you, no one who worked there was joking around. They take their spam very seriously and I couldn’t help but think……IT’S HAM IN A CAN!

What inspired us to go touring was our campground yesterday. We’ve been loving staying at The Jellystone campground until yesterday. It went from being only about 1/4 full to having every single campsite filled. It makes sense. Yesterday was Saturday. We are used to staying at KOA’s which are geared a lot for traveling families who come and go quickly. Jellystone camps are for the family who is looking to stay and camp camp. People had so many things set up. They were outside constantly….campfires and lawn games were happening….you know your typical camp stuff. We aren’t the most neighborly. Not that we are ever rude, but talking and crowds are just not our jam. We’ve gotten so used to RV traveling. We come and go so quick we never set up a huge outdoor area on our campsite. Joah made a friend. They got into a conversation. Joah’s friend was explaining how he had to go help his parents tear down and pack up their campsite. Joah goes “oh really? We never pack. We usually just zip out of here.” The pool and inflatables were so overly crowded. Brandon made the choice to bribe the kids with a museum instead of taking them swimming.

Spam, believe it or not, was a very valuable resource used during a lot of our major wars, especially World War II. It fed our troops a lot of meals. It is most popular over in Asia. They sell a lot of it there. However, here in the USA, Hawaii consumes the most spam of all the states.

96175DED-89E0-474A-8D9D-A1A180D33E9B.jpegThey had a farmers market. The kids gathered all kinds of fruits and vegetables in their baskets. They could weigh them on the scale and see how much it all cost. They had all kinds of fun.

We let them play for awhile and then checked out the gift shop. I didn’t get any pictures, but there were so many hilarious things. I’m too much of a cheapskate to let Brandon get all the gag gifts he wanted to for everyone. We couldn’t help but take nothing seriously. I mean there were these bright yellow spam flip flops. There was a huge spam beach towel. Who wouldn’t want to go to the beach dressed like a big giant spam? There was also a spamchula(spatula). We had so many of our friends in mind, but like I said I’m too cheap. Just know it’s the thought that counted.

I’ll touch on some highlights from our Jellystone campground:
