Today at Yellowstone went much much better than yesterday. This was the Yellowstone I was picturing. The kids and I had been reading and researching, and we were really bummed after our experience last night. We saw so much wildlife today. The kids have their cameras almost filled to the max with pictures. We decided today we need to get Caed a camera for his birthday coming up. Poor guy wants to take pictures like his big brother and sister.
One of the locals recommended we take the kids to a hot spring pool. So that’s how our day started. The hot spring was outside and the view was breathtaking. The water was 95 degrees and the air was 35 degrees. Isla loves a hot bath so she loved this water. She swam and swam and kicked her little legs. She worked up a hunger though and really chowed when she got out.
After our swim we headed to Yellowstone. This time it did not disappoint. Pretty much first thing after we entered the park we saw this huge herd of bison cross the road right in front of us.

We saw tons more bison, elk, mule deer, cranes, and antelope throughout the day.
We saw roaring mountain. There was tons of steam.
We also saw this sulfur spring with boiling water. The kids learned a fact today…..water boils at 212 degrees.
We saw some bison up close. They were right along a walkway and we decided to get out and see just how big they were.
We went to Old Faithful and saw the geyser erupt.
Joah’s book he picked for his souvenir. Believe it or not this is actually very educational. It’s a story about all the different animals we saw at Yellowstone.
Caed’s book is really cool too. It’s going to get a lot of use. The kids were so excited to read about the animals we saw.
Isla’s book I picked for her. We have a goodnight Alaska book just like it that we all love.
Little miss fashionista chose a shirt instead of a book.
I am excited to try this huckleberry honey!
When we got back to the RV after walking around Old Faithful and visiting the gift shop, I was busy getting everything put away. The kids were unsupervised for about 1.5 minutes. By the time I caught them their cheeks were stuffed full and they all looked like chipmunks. I realized quickly what was going down. They saw their opportunity and they jumped on it.
They got ahold of these huckleberry taffys and were seeing how many they could shove in their mouth before I noticed. It’s a miracle they didn’t choke. They were all as quiet as skilled mice too opening the wrappers.
One of my favorite moments from Yellowstone was when we were all searching for bears. We were so hoping to see at least one bear. We were all intensely looking. Caed pipes up and yells”dad I see it. I see two bears up on that mountain.” We all looked excitedly. Then Caed goes, “haha. I got you dad.” That kid! He is really growing up. We are thankful we went to Bear Country USA a couple days ago. We saw lots of bears there. As Joah pointed out to me, “it’s not the same as seeing them in the wild, but it’s still cool.”
